Almost all states fail to meet weekly physical education requirements, with Oregon and the District of Columbia being the exception

States don’t set minimum amounts of time for exercise. Only 19 states require elementary school children to exercise to a certain amount during school; by high school only six states do

Not all states require students to take gym class at all. Only 39 states require elementary school students to participate in exercise during school hours

Some states withhold physical education as punishment. Of the U.S.’s 50 states, 40 allow school officials to prevent students from physical education as punishment

2 percent reported that their property was destroyed by others on purpose

6 percent reported that they were pushed, shoved, tripped, or spit on

Of those students who reported being pushed, shoved, tripped, or spit on at school, about 21 percent reported injury as a result of the incident

In 2013, a higher percentage of females than of males ages 12–18 reported being bullied at school during the school year (24 vs. 19 percent)
